A/Prof Dylan Hyam is one of Australia’s most experienced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Director of Capital Oral & Facial Surgery. He holds honours degrees in both Medicine and Dentistry from the University of Sydney, reflecting his strong academic foundation and commitment to excellence.
After beginning his career with the Royal Australian Army, A/Prof Hyam undertook his first residency at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. He completed specialist training across Sydney, Canberra, and the United Kingdom, gaining broad experience in the management of complex maxillofacial conditions. During his time in the UK, he received advanced training in head and neck cancer surgery, orthognathic surgery, dental implants, and complex bone grafting procedures.
A/Prof Hyam was the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at The Canberra Hospital for 17 years. He continues to balance his commitment to public healthcare alongside his private practice. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery within the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, overseeing specialist training for the next generation of surgeons. His academic role as Adjunct Associate Professor at the Charles Sturt Dental School further reflects his dedication to teaching and mentoring future dental professionals.
A/Prof Hyam holds all required accreditations, licenses, and professional recognitions to practice as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. His career reflects not only extensive clinical expertise but also a commitment to advancing the specialty through education, leadership, and patient-centred care.
